Like last year, this blog starts on our train journey to Reading, except this time it's not about a jobsworth guard, but a young lady medical student and the use of modern technology. Like most journeys these days, almost everyone under pensionable age and a few over, seem to spend the entire duration of their travel engrossed in texting, talking or taking selfies on their mobiles and pads.
Today was no exception.
Sitting in front of us today was a young lady, who we deduce was either a medical student or someone pretending to be so as she was reading the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine. Well, that was in between the 20+ pouting selfies that she took between Derby and Birmingham.
However, in between the selfies her phone rang and she took the call whilst sitting in her seat. After a few minutes she got up and went to the toilet, still on the phone. A little later, she returned from the toilet - still on the phone and remained so for a some minutes longer. Later on in the journey she was flicking through her selfies when up popped a video clip, which she promptly ran. Yes - you've guessed. It was a video clip taken in the toilet!!! I can only imagine that if it finds its way onto YouTube it will go viral in minutes.
For those who have never been exposed to one of our blogs, you will soon realise that this sets the tone for the rest of the trip. More in a few days, once we arrive in Sydney.
